Asianet Film Awards 2019

Asianet film award is one which is considered as one of the prestigious awards in Malayalam film industry. Most of the Malayalam actors aspire to win at least one Asianet film award in their career. This award ceremony is held annually by Asianet, which is the leading channel of Kerala to honour the artistic and technical excellence in Malayalam cinema.

This year, the ceremony was held on March 20, 2019, at Kochi, Kerala. With famous celebrities like Mammootty, Mohanlal, Jayaram, Manju Warrier, Prithviraj, Tovino Thomas and so many on board, the ceremony was grand and colourful and here is the list of winners.

  • The Best Actor award was bagged by Mohanlal for his wonderful performance in Odiyan which had the greatest opening on the day of its release. He played the role of a Manikyan who possessed shapeshifting ability.
  • The Best Actress award was given to Manju Warrier, the lady superstar of Mollywood for her memorable performances in Aami, Mohanlal and Odiyan.
  • Tovino Thomas came up with four critically acclaimed movies last year namely Maradona, Theevandi, Ente Ummante Peru and Oru kuprasidha payan and he was awarded the Performer of the year.
  • Sudani from Nigeria which won so many accolades already has won The Best Film of the year 2018.
  • Kayamkulam Kochunni starring Nivin Pauly and Priya Anand was adjudged as the Popular Movie of 2018 which was made at a high budget of 45 crores and had a grand run over 100 days.
  • Trisha for her soulful performance in the movie, 96 has won the most popular actress in Tamil film industry.
  • The Most Popular Actor Award was given to Prithviraj for his impressive performance in the film, Koode and the Most Popular Actress award was given to Aishwarya Lakshmi for the blockbuster movie, Varathan.
  • Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Sreekumaran Thambi who is a lyricist, director, producer and screenwriter in Malayalam cinema.
  • Along with that, Mammootty and Anjali starrer Tamil movie Peranbu directed by Ram was applauded at the ceremony for its unique storyline and fantabulous acting.

The movie trailer of the upcoming Malayalam movie Lucifer starring Mohanlal and Manju Warrier in the lead, directed by Prithviraj Sugumaran was also launched in the ceremony.
