Balkrishna Doshi Wins Pritzker Architecture Prize

Balkrishna Doshi, the legendary Indian architect has won the Pritzker Architecture Prize, the Nobel equivalent for the field, on Wednesday.He is the first Indian to receive this prize which is the highest recognition in this profession.

Doshi has always been working with a sense of responsibility and a desire to work for his country for which he created alot of projects for public utilities ,education etc. He is very serious about architecture and always created a serious one.

Being an alumni of the JJ School of Architecture in Mumbai, he initially worked with the legendary Le Corbusier in Paris in the 1950.Later he started his studio Vastu-Shilpa. He used to design for the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Tagore Memorial Hall, the Institute of Indology in Ahmedabad, among other fine campuses and buildings across India, besides many low-cost housing projects.

It is said that he is known for his institution buildings and he is also the founder Director of the School of Architecture, Ahmedabad. Doshi once said that his works are just an extension of his life and philosophy.
