In order to facilitate construction of Challaghatta depot the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has decided to build a tunnel road towards the end of Mysuru Road. It will be in between between Magadi Road and Mysuru Road. The tunnel has been planned to built on 200 metres of the 10.7-km road.
General Manager of BMRCL M L Channappa Goudar said that 200 metres will be build underground since that land is very important to construct the depot. Also it has got in-principle approval for the project.
The total budget for the tunnel is 80 crore. The road will split into two directions, one heading to mysore and other will go towards Bengaluru city said Goudar. The BMRCL said that they require a total of 45 acres to construct it. Adding to this Goudar said 17 acres will be obtained from BDA, 29 acres will be acquired from private owners.
However Metro Corporation might compensate the remaining land by compensating with the farmers.
