Connemara Public Library celebrates its 120th year
Chennai is a place of diverse people and the beautiful landmaarks too. Connemara library is one of the
well-known identity of Chennai which is located in Egmore. Today on Dec 5th, 2017 the library is proudly
celebarting its 120th year.
Connemara Pulic Library receives a copy of all books, newspapers and periodicals published in India
and is said to be one of the four National Depository Libraries. Moreover every year several books were
added by purchasing from the funds made available by the state government budget. The library also
has some of the rarest collections of books. Also additional buildings were built to cope up with the
increasing stock of books. Approximately the library has a collection of over 600,000 books.
It is not only the place of books but its architectural beauty and marvel acquires a special significance as
part of the history of Madras City. The library has a splendid hall, ancient teakwood book shelves and
wooden ceiling. This is said to be one of the Asia’s largest libraries.
