The DMK leader Muthuvel Karunanidhi has passed away today at 6.10pm in Kauvery hospital, Chennai. “With deep anguish, we announce the demise of our beloved Kalaignar Dr. M Karunanidhi on 07.08.2018 at 06.10 pm. Despite the possible efforts by our team of doctors and nurses to resuscitate him, he failed to respond,” the hospital said.
Karunanidhi’s body has just taken from the hospital and reports say that Karunanidhi’s body will be kept at his Gopalapuram residence till 1 am and will be taken to the CIT Colony Residence of his daughter Kanimozhi and then to Rajaji Hall. Many politicians from the nation are arriving to pay respects tomorrow.
Further reports say that the government has denied the permission to bury his body in Marina Beach. Instead, a land of 2 acres has been allocated in Gandhi Mandapam. This might again lead to a major problem.
Being a dark day to Tamilnadu we have once again lost a prominent leader. Kalaignar is the eldest leader who served as the chief minister of the state of Tamil Nadu for five separate terms in the 1969–2011 period. Before entering politics he worked in the Tamil film industry as a screenwriter. He has also made contributions to Tamil literature, having written stories, plays, novels, and a multiple-volume memoir.
