Lakme Fashion Week is jointly organized by Lakme, the number one cosmetics and beauty services brand in India and IMG Reliance Pvt. Ltd., leader in sports, fashion and entertainment marketing and management.

Lakme Fashion Week has been conceived and created with a vision to “Redefine the future of fashion and integrate India into the global fashion world.” Lakme Fashion Week is organized twice every year.

One is organised in February for summer collections and the other one in August for winter collections. It is one of the primary fashion shows in the country and it takes place at Mumbai.

This season, the unanticipated shift in venue for the opening show was quite a dampener. Tarun Tahiliani’s showcase, expected to be held at St. Xavier’s College was moved to the non-gothic, non-historic Main Stage Area at St.Regis. On another note, the life-size hemp sculpture inspired by the works of Mrinalini Mukherjee, made for a strong talking point.

Though the opening was commented to be not-so-extravagant, Manish Malhotra’s opening show at ITC Central was wow! Shraddha Kapoor and Sushant Singh Rajput emerged as stylish show stoppers with their graceful ramp.

This time at LFW, the designs from Arunachal Pradesh and Assam were used, which proved to be a game changing move. Sanjay Garg showcased his outfits in a parking lot with all drums percussion which was thought to be an innovative move and it was cool.

Sabyasachi’s grand finale at Mehboob Studio was complete with live music by the Symphony Orchestra of India, swaying chandeliers and stunning, glittering ensembles. The setting was pure, vintage grandeur — something we have come to expect from the designer. Kareena Kapoor took  a graceful walk in the ramp in an absolutely gorgeous Golden lehenga, exposing her baby bump.

The designers chose to do more than just create beautiful trousseau pieces. They tackled gender stereotypes (Payal Khandwala’s The New Emperor), pushed boundaries (Little Shilpa’s collection for plus-sized label ALL) and addressed global concerns through their work (Suhani Pittie’s Nowhere People).

Designer duo Sonam and Paras Modi of the label “SVA”, instilled a new life into the ancestral art of the French locality of Montparnasse with their new collection titled Mon Passe, at LFW Winter 2016. Taking inspiration from street art and the vintage yet poignant feel that the region has to offer, the designers captured the elegance and poise of the era gone by. Bollywood actress Prachi Desai looked stunning as she walked down the ramp.

Apart from this, the show showcased a lot of Bollywood stars like Deepika, Sushmitha Sen, Ranbir Kapoor, Siddharth Malhotra, Karishma Kapoor, Malaika Arora Khan,Jennifer Winget, etc in the ramp. One doesn’t simply say that this is the biggest fashion show of the country. It showed updated trends in ‘Marriage collections’. It had a stream of fashion models adorning  every possible outfit one could select for their big day. Lets wait for the summer collections!
