Pollachi Case Updates

Pollachi case is one which shocked the people of the entire nation at recent times. There were so many negotiations regarding this issue and this has been the hot topic for the past month in media. About 300 women were sexually assaulted and this was happening for the past 5 years without the knowledge of anyone in the state. These women were first chosen based on their Facebook profile. Then fake accounts were created by these accounts on Facebook. After striking a conversation and befriending them, they later engaged in sexual activity with or without the consent of women as others filmed the abuse. The victims are from Chennai, Coimbatore, Salem and many parts of Tamil Nadu, and they include school and college teachers, doctors, senior secondary and college students.

This case was transferred to the CB-CID on March 12 and Thirunavukkarasu was in the custody of CB-CID for about 4 days. The Madras High Court on Friday sought the response of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) by April 25. Six women advocates demanded an appointment of a high-ranking woman official to probe cases related to the incidents of sexual abuse in Pollachi.

After hearing preliminary arguments advanced by senior counsel R. Vaigai, the judges directed Government Pleader  Jayaprakash Narayan who is in charge of the case to take notice on behalf of the State government as the third plea of the petitioners was to extend benefits of the witness protection scheme to the victims.

The Madurai Bench Of Madras High Court has also ordered the Government of TN to donate Rs:25 lakhs as compensation to all victims for revealing their identity and also to withdraw the GO and issue a fresh order in its place, without revealing the identity of the survivor.
